Gerard Way returned to the U.K.'s Reading Festival this weekend for a very different type of performance.
Back in 2011 he headlined the main stage with My Chemical Romance, but on Friday he took a smaller stage and started his show before noon.
Way made his proper live debut as a solo artist with a set filled with material from his upcoming album Hesitant Alien. Rolling Stone says he warned the crowd that he was going to play "a bunch of songs that none of you have heard of before," but the larger-than-expected audience was more than ready to listen to them.
Way's Hesitant Alien is scheduled to hit shelves on September 30th.
Meanwhile, the dual-city Reading and Leeds Festivals also included headlining sets from Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, and Blink-182, while Paramore, Jake Bugg, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Vampire Weekend, and many more also performed.
